Caramel sauce is one of my favorite decadent treats. I love it to enjoy with apples or put on ice cream. The sad part is that traditional caramel sauce is not a great nutritional source. Traditional caramel is somewhat time consuming to make as well. This caramel sauce is fabulous and can be created in minutes. As an added bonus, it actually tastes like traditional caramel sauce! This is a great nutritious treat to elevate any dessert or snack to the next level.
1 cup dates soaked overnight1 cup raw almond milk1/4 cup water1/4 cup raw pine nuts1 tbsp. agave1 tsp. vanilla extract1 tsp. sea salt
Place all the ingredients in food processor or high speed blender and blend until smooth!
Nutritional benefits of this recipe:
Dates are packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. They are easily digested which allows the body to absorb the nutrients. The dietary fiber in dates help move toxins through the colon and help prevent LDL cholesterol absorption by binding cancer causing chemicals. Dates are high in iron, potassium, B-Vitamins such as carotenes lutein and zeaxanthin. They contain Vitamin A and K to help protect the eyes, skin, lungs and mouth. They are high in tannins and polyphenolic antioxidants that fight infection and inflammation to prevent excessive bleeding. Dates are also good sources of copper, magnesium, manganese, vitamin B-6, niacin, pantothenic acid and riboflavin. Eating dates in moderation can help protect against damage to cells from free radicals, prevent strokes, coronary heart disease and development of colon, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung, and pancreatic cancers.
